Good Hearty Pub Food
Country pub dining in Aberfoyle doesn’t get much better. From steak pie to grilled locally caught rainbow trout, every one of our lovingly-made dishes is served with a generous helping of rustic charm..
We’re doing our best to maintain the standards that thousands of you have come to know and trust. When we took over this pub, many years ago, the offering was simple, it was good but it was simple and it stopped at the end of October.
The Steak Pie is still made to the same formula!..we no longer buy our fish frozen, our fish comes either locally from the Lake of Menteith or it comes in from the sea, via Scrabster (at the very north of Scotland, up near Wick) its transprted to Perth were its redistributed to us!…Here’s a thought, last night your fish was probably swimming around in the Minch or was quite happy hiding from Ospreys in the Lake!
All our Red meat comes from The Aberfoyle Butcher, he’s just along the main street, If you go in ask for Charlie, he can be a bit of a grump but he’s one hell of a nice fella. Say hello from us.
A few years ago Visit Scotland awarded us the accolade of “Best Place to Eat Out in Stirling, Loch Lomond, Argyll and The Trossachs” it was never sought after. It does please us however that the core of our Staff, including the head chef are still with us today
Anyway, here’s a story about the circles we work in.
A few years ago a local celebrirty chef by the name of Nairn got to cook for the Queens Birthday (you may remember it, it was a series on the telly), well, he opted to do Venison and his butcher of choice was The Aberfoyle Butcher. The cut he used left lots of other very nice parts of the very dear deer at our disposal, and that we did, lots of our guests unwittingly were eating the same deer that was presented to the Queen..not a bad offering for a small country pub out in the sticks!
While making yourself at home with a hearty, comforting classic, you can be sure to find a pint of Scottish cask ale or a glass of well-chosen wine to match it…
Enjoy your dinner.
ps. if you are wondering, we don’t stop at October these day either…that’s an invitation to come back anytime.
Enough reading for now, time to have a look at our menus..
